Anuradha Sridhar (violin).\u00a0 Please <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kumarsfamily.net\/ananths-arangetram\/the-invitation\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">click here to see the invitation<\/span><\/a> to my (<em>mridangam<\/em>) <em>arangetram<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I know for a <em>mridangam arangetram<\/em> like mine, the main artist is typically a male vocalist. \u00a0However, after accompanying a couple of <em>vainikas<\/em> and violinists at the monthly CCC events in Milpitas, I thought it would be more interesting and challenging to have a <em>vainika<\/em> and violinist as the main artists for my (<em>mridangam<\/em>) <em>arangetram<\/em>. \u00a0When I suggested this to my guru and my parents, they were all supportive of this idea.<\/p>\n<p>Both Anu aunty and Srikanth uncle were taught music in the Lalgudi style. \u00a0My parents and I are huge fans of this style. \u00a0Fortunately for me, we have two of the best artists in this style right here in our neck of the woods - the greater San Francisco Bay Area. \u00a0Please take a few minutes to read their bios in the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kumarsfamily.net\/ananths-arangetram\/the-artists\/\">Artists page<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, as luck would have it, Vidwan Dr. S. Karthick was touring the United States during these few weeks. \u00a0I had watched him support another <em>mridangam<\/em> <em>arangetram<\/em> a few months ago. \u00a0He was constantly encouraging and providing non-verbal cues to the <em>mridangist<\/em> which made the whole concert go very well. \u00a0For people who were just listening and for most who were watching, it sounded like a seasoned professional was playing the <em>mridangam<\/em>. \u00a0This was mainly due to Dr. Karthick\u2019s presence and support on the stage.\u00a0 You can read more about him in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kumarsfamily.net\/ananths-arangetram\/the-artists\/\">Artists page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since we moved to California in 2004, we have visited the Shiva-Vishnu temple in Livermore. \u00a0We are regular sponsors and donors for the various activities, events, <em>poojas<\/em> and construction projects at the temple. \u00a0A few years ago, the new Lakireddy Auditorium was inaugurated with a vocal concert by Vidwan Sri Sanjay Subramaniam. \u00a0We were very impressed with the sound quality and the set up at this new auditorium. \u00a0So, choosing this as the venue for my <em>arangetram<\/em> was a no-brainer.<\/p>\n<p>My <em>arangetram<\/em> concert was structured to follow the typical Carnatic <em>paddathi<\/em> - it started with a <em>varnam<\/em> and ended with a <em>tillaana<\/em>, both of which were composed by the late Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. \u00a0Both Anu aunty and Srikanth uncle had worked with my guru, Ravi uncle, to select the musical pieces that will bring the best out of all of us. \u00a0The songs will covered the major <em>taalas<\/em> in a range of <em>raagas<\/em>, and provided ample opportunity for me, the <em>mridangist<\/em>, to embellish and complement the musicians, along with Dr. S. Karthick.<\/p>\n<p>As you can expect, the concert included several of Sri Lalgudi G. K. Ganesa Pillai.\u00a0 He made his debut at the age of 11 and ever since, he has been rising in his art by furthering his horizons and making a mark in the field of carnatic music.\u00a0 An intensive training under the maestro late Thanjavur Sri Upendran brought about a great amount of professionalism in Narayanan's playing.\u00a0 His guru taught him the intricacies and specialties of the <em>thanjavur style<\/em> of playing on the <em>mridangam<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Narayanan is now blessed with the rare opportunity of being one of the favorite disciples of the mridangam legend Umayalpuram Sri K.Sivaraman, who is a Padmabushan awardee.\u00a0 This great influence has brought in a great amount of clarity, precision and perfection in Narayanan's style.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/neyvelinarayanan.com\/biography.html\" target=\"_blank\">Read more...<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Event: my mridangam arangetram On November 6, 2016, I got to accompany a veena-violin duet by two of Bay Area\u2019s best musicians &#8211; Vidwan Sri Srikanth Chary (veena) and Vidushi Smt.
